Indestructible Direct Part Marking for Automotive Components

Laser marking system provides high-contrast, permanent direct part marking (DPM) for engine blocks, brake systems, and interior plastic components.

The Fabrication Challenge

Automotive components endure the most brutal environments on earth: extreme thermal cycling, corrosive brake fluids, salt spray, and synthetic motor oils. But just Relying on traditional marking methods introduces massive liabilities for Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs

Ink and Labels Fail in Harsh Environments

Continuous inkjet (CIJ) marks and adhesive labels simply cannot survive 15 years of exposure to engine heat, brake cleaner, and road salt. When a defective fuel injector causes a massive vehicle recall, and the traceability barcode is washed away by oil, the OEM loses the ability to isolate the bad batch, and cost millions in blind recalls

Dot Peen Creates Stress Fractures

Many manufacturers still use pneumatic dot peen machines to stamp VINs or serial numbers into metal. Dot peen works by violently displacing metal with a tungsten carbide stylus. On safety-critical, highly stressed cast components (like brake calipers, steering knuckles, or high-pressure cylinders), these physical craters act as stress concentrators, initiating micro-fractures that can lead to catastrophic mechanical failure.

Counterfeit Parts Penetrating the Supply Chain

The automotive aftermarket is flooded with grey-market knockoffs. Printed boxes and superficial ink marks are easily forged. If Without a permanent, unalterable mark deeply integrated into the part’s physical structure, legitimate manufacturers face massive brand damage and liability when inferior counterfeit brake pads or airbags fail on the road

Why Auto-parts Need Laser-Marking?

3D Vision Auto-Targeting

Cast automotive parts (like transmission housings) often have wide dimensional tolerances and irregular shapes. As the part enters the marking cell via conveyor or robot arm, JCT’s integrated 3D vision marking system scans the topology. It instantly recognizes the casting’s orientation and dynamically shifts the laser’s X/Y/Z coordinates, ensuring the barcode lands perfectly on the designated boss every time.

Non-Destructive Laser Ablation or Annealing

Based on the alloy, the laser executes the mark in milliseconds. For aluminum or cast iron, it ablates a micro-layer to create a deep, high-contrast mark. For stainless steel exhaust components, it uses “Laser Annealing”—drawing carbon to the surface to create a jet-black mark while keeping the surface completely smooth, preventing any initiation points for rust or stress fractures.

Integrated Grade Verification (Read & Verify)

Immediately after the laser fires, an inline coaxial camera or external DPM scanner reads the code. The system checks the data against the factory database to ensure no duplicates, grades the contrast quality, and logs the part as “Pass.” If a part fails scanning, the PLC triggers an automatic reject gate, ensuring zero untraceable components reach the OEM

For Auto-parts We CAN Supply

Cast iron engine blocks, aluminum transmission housings, steel brake discs, bearings, and exhaust manifolds

The ultimate heavy-duty DPM tool. Delivers deep, permanent engraving and high-contrast annealing .They can survive oil, extreme heat, and rust.

Dashboard buttons (Day & Night design), plastic interior trim, delicate sensors, and automotive glass windows (VIN marking)

he master of “Cold Marking.” Features an infinitesimally small focal spot to cleanly ablate paint layers or mark sensitive plastics without melting the substrate. It produces the ultra-crisp, high-contrast tactile feedback demanded by luxury automotive interior designers

co2 laser marking machine non metal

Rubber tires (DOT codes), plastic battery casings, wire harnesses, and automotive fabrics/leather seats.

The fastest solution for organic and non-metal automotive parts. Rapidly changes the surface structure of rubber and polymers. Ideal for replacing consumable-heavy inkjet printers on continuous extrusion lines

FAQ

Q1: We currently use dot peen machines on our brake calipers. Why should we switch to laser?

Dot peen creates loud noise, it requires constant replacement of broken carbide styluses, and most dangerously, it creates physical micro-craters that can cause stress fractures in cast metals. Laser marking is completely silent, contactless, requires zero consumables, and can mark via “annealing” .It leaves the metal surface perfectly smooth and structurally uncompromised

It depends entirely on your tier in the supply chain:

Powertrain/Chassis (Metals): Choose the Fiber Laser for engines, brakes, and bearings.

Interiors/Sensors (Plastics/Glass): Choose the UV Laser for backlit buttons, displays, and delicate sensors.

Exteriors/Wiring (Rubber/Polymers): Choose the CO2 Laser for tires, battery casings, and wire harnesses.

Yes. Our industrial controllers  communicate via standard protocols (TCP/IP, RS232, Profinet) .It pull real-time data directly from your ERP or MES database, ensuring that every airbag, seatbelt tensioner, or engine block receives a dynamically generated, 100% unique tracking code.

No. Laser marking is a zero-consumable process. There are no ink cartridges, no solvents, no clogged printheads, and no drill bits to sharpen. The solid-state laser source typically boasts a lifespan of over 100,000 hours of continuous operation, offering unparalleled uptime for 24/7 automotive shifts.
